MOMental Project Kick-Off Meeting Held in Zagreb

The first transnational meeting of the MOMental project took place in Zagreb on 14 November 2025, hosted by Roda – Parents in Action. MOMental is a two-year international collaboration focused on supporting the mental health of pregnant women and mothers in crisis settings. The project brings together partners from Croatia, Czechia, Cyprus and Ukraine, with UNICEF Croatia participating as an associated partner.

The meeting gathered representatives of Roda, the National Institute of Mental Health (NUDZ) from Czechia, Birth Forward from Cyprus and the Ukrainian Midwives’ Union. The goal was to create a shared understanding of the project's objectives, plan the first activities and establish clear coordination mechanisms.

Throughout the day, partners presented their organisations, experience and expectations, and jointly refined the methodology for developing the Learning Guide (WP2), the training programme (WP3) and the digital Learning Hub (WP4). Special attention was given to evaluation processes, transparent communication and stakeholder engagement in each country.

The consortium agreed on the schedule of meetings, documentation standards and deadlines for initial tasks.
As project coordinator, Roda presented the organisational structure, management framework and quality approach, while partners contributed through a joint SWOT analysis identifying key challenges and opportunities.

The meeting took place in a constructive, open atmosphere. Partners highlighted the importance of this project for improving support for maternal mental health in a wide range of crisis contexts — from economic instability and migration to everyday access barriers in health and social care systems.

The next steps include beginning the desk research phase and conducting national stakeholder consultations that will shape the forthcoming guidelines and training materials.
