Decision-Making Processes

The General Assembly is Roda's highest body. It consists of all persons who are full members of the Association. The General Assembly meets at least once annually.

All of the members of Roda's Board and Executive Team are longstanding members of the organization and all of them are parents with children of varying ages. As parents are Roda's core population, the organisation's leadership reflects this. A number of these members have diverse (non-traditional) families.

The Board is responsible for making strategic, long-term decisions (e.g. about our mission and vision, new areas of work and activity etc.), while the Executive Team is responsible for day to day decisions and collaboration with partners. In project areas that work with specific vulnerable groups Roda always has a partner organization with members of that group (e.g. organisations of blind persons) with whom we work to discuss needs, prepare, implement, monitor and evaluate projects. The project/ activity team always includes members who are from the target group, who participate in all decision-making.

Roda's five member Board of Directors has constant access to financial information, makes strategic and major financial decisions. The President is responsible the annual financial report at the end of the fiscal year (30 April). The board is elected to a two-year term at Roda's annual meeting.

Day to day decisions are made by the Executive Team (ET), which is composed of the heads of Roda's program areas (Reproductive Rights, Breastfeeding, Parenting, Legal Rights) and the Executive Director who communicate regularly and have full day planning meetings once per month where activities and short-term priorities are set. Program Team meetings are held on average once per year or more often as required for each program area and include Roda's members (mostly volunteers) involved in that program area.

Project meetings are held monthly or bimonthly as required to plan, implement and monitor activities. Project decisions are mostly made independently by the project team and the ET and Board consulted only for complex or strategic issues or disputes.
